LOCAL SUPPORT

After the School Bell Food Program

  Firefighter Tim Cook recently had the opportunity to present Doris Walton from After the School Bell Food Program with a donation to help in their ongoing efforts. This program helps put food in belly's of countless school children around the area.  

Lincoln Selig - East Coast Ice

         Firefighter Tim Cook had the opportunity to present a donation to young up and coming hockey player Lincoln Selig to aid in his fundraising for an upcoming East Coast Ice trip Lincoln will be making this spring. Good luck Lincoln and keep your stick on the ice buddy.  

Amherst Little League

 Past Association President Alex Harrison, distributing two financial contributions to Amherst Little League Executive members; Terry (Mouser) McManaman, Suzie Headge, and Bree Scott. 

These contributions are from the Amherst Firefighters Association to help the little league with their ongoing efforts. 

Did you know that baseball is still free for kids with Amherst little league? They have three feilds an excellent clubhouse and a batting cage due to the thankless efforts of many volunteers and community supports. 

Amherst Police Department

      Firefighter Tim Cook had the opportunity to present therapy dog Lola, crime prevention coordinator Melanie Siddall and officer Brian Garins with a donation to assist in the on-going support of therapy dogs Rocky and Lola. Since the inception of the therapy dog program, they have made a huge difference helping first responders, as well as the interaction between police and the general public. 

Bridge Adult Service Center

  Firefighter Tim Cook presents Roy Pettigrew and an absolutely amazing group of people from the Bridge Adult Services Center with a donation to assist in their upcoming golf tournament.  

Amherst Food Assistance Network

        Firefighter Tim Cook presented Amherst Food Assistant Network representative Dale Fawthrop with a donation to aid in the purchase of a freezer for the local food bank. The Amherst food bank is a great organization, and helps put food on the tables of countless local families. Anyone wishing to donate, please reach out to the local food bank. 

DC Towing

      Firefighter Tim Cook presents DC Towing, owner/operator Dave Dickie with a small token of appreciation for all he does for the association year after year. Dave provides us with derelict cars, to use for training. 

These vehicles allow us to train at a multitude of different scenarios, so we are able to hone our skills in a controlled environment, this helps to ensure we are prepared when we get to an actual emergency. 

Cumberland Minor Hockey

      Firefighter Tim Cook presents Debbie Peterson of the U11 AA Ramblers, with a donation to help with keeping cost affordable for the kids of Cumberland County in minor hockey.  

Bridge Adult Service Centre

     Firefighter Tim Cook presents Terry McManaman with a donation to help with the purchase of hockey helmets and face masks, to allow The Bridge Adult Service Centre members participate in a Floor Hockey Tournament taking place in Summerside PEI, as well as other sporting events they can use this equipment for in the future. 

ARHS

Firefighter Tim Cook presented ARHS music teacher Stephanie Mizuik a donation to help with band expenses to attend the Atlantic Festival of Music in Halifax this coming spring.  

West Highlands School

   Firefighter Tim Cook presented West Highlands School principal Kirk Rioux with a donation towards new physical education equipment. 

Christmas Cheer Food Box Program

  The Amherst Firefighters Association was happy to make a donation to the Christmas Cheer Food Box Program. Pictured is Sharon White of the AFFA presenting a check to Christmas Cheer Coordinator Erika Benjamin. 

Spring Street Breakfast

Relay For Life

        Terri Lefurgey Lewis accepts a contribution cheque for the Relay For Life, Amherst.  

1st Amherst Multi Guiding Unit

 Firefighter Corey Benjamin Presents a Contribution Cheque to the 1st Amherst Multi Guiding Unit  

Spring Street Academy Home & School Association

     Captain Bob Sperry presents Sarah McCarthy of the Spring Street Academy Home and School Association with a contribution cheque. 

ARHS/EBC Band & Choir Program

  Firefighter Alex Harrison presents Stephanie Mizuik of the ARHS/EBC band & choir programs with a contribution cheque to help with their program expenses.

Stephanie has been a pillar in the School Band Programs here in Amherst for well over 10 years 

Nova Scotia Burn Treatment Society

       Firefighter Alex Harrison presents Amherst Firefighter and Chair of the Nova Scotia Burn Treatment Society Tim Betts with a contribution cheque on behalf of the Amherst Firefighters Association. Thank you Tim for your work with the society and thank you NS burn treatment for your great work since 1982! 

After The School Bell Food Program

      Firefighters Alex Harrison and Tim Cook present a contribution cheque to Doris Walton of the After The School Bell Food Program. Did you know you that the After The School Bell Food Program supports 170 students in 10 schools throughout Cumberland County? This program is completely run by Senior Volunteers in our Community we thank you for supporting our youth! 

Muscular Dystrophy Canada

     Firefighters Tim Cook and Alex Harrison present a cheque to Shelley McWilliams of the Muscular Dystrophy Canada. Did you know that the AFFA has been supporting MD Canada for almost 60 years? Thank you MD Canada for all you do, we are happy to be able to support! 

Amherst U11 AA Hockey

    Firefighters Alex Harrison and Sharon White present a cheque to the 2023/2024 Amherst U11AA hockey team! 

Bridge Adult Service Centre

   Firefighter Tim Cook is pleased to present a sponsorship cheque to Joanne of the Bridge Adult Service Centre. These funds will go towards various programs and projects they have in the works. 

Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter

  Captain Vern Megeney & Firefighter Jordan Cole are pleased to present a sponsorship cheque to Robynn & Karen of the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter. These funds will go towards their current campaign to build a new animal shelter. 

Oxford Boxing Club

 Firefighter Tim Cook is proud to present a sponsorship cheque to his son, Charles “Aiden” of the Oxford Boxing Club.

Cumberland Allstars Cheerleading Club

Firefighter Jordan Cole presents a sponsorship cheque to Megan Everill of the Cumberland Allstars Cheerleading Club. Cumberland Allstars Cheerleading Club is a nonprofit cheer club that offers dance, tumbling and cheer programs for ages 2+. 

Amherst 50+ Club

        Captain Vern Megeney presents an AED Defibrillator to Merrill Murray, President of the Amherst 50+ Club. The Amherst 50+ Club consists of roughly 250 members.  

Amherst Branch, Navy League

       Firefighter Jordan Cole is pleased to present a cheque to Darrell Jones, President and Lt(N) Stephen Rayworth, Commanding Officer of the Amherst Branch, Navy League of Canada. These funds will help with end-of-year fun activities for the cadets before they go on summer break. 

1st Amherst Multi Guiding Unit

      Firefighters Corey Benjamin and Tim Cook present a cheque to the 1st Amherst Multi Guiding Unit. These funds will go towards upcoming trips and adventures! 

Maggie's Place

     Firefighter Jordan Cole presents a cheque to Sheri MacDonald of Maggie’s Place in Amherst. These funds will help supply backpacks filled with school supplies to children around Cumberland County at no cost to the parents or guardians. 

Truemanville Fire Department

       Firefighter Jordan Cole presents a memorial donation to Truemanville Fire Chief Lyman Bacon in memory of firefighter Stephen Fage that passed away suddenly on February 9, 2023. Stephen was a longtime member of the Truemanville Fire Department and has assisted us over the years on countless mutual aid calls in Amherst and the surrounding area. He will be greatly missed. 

Amherst Little League Baseball

       Firefighter Tim Cook & Firefighter Jordan Cole presents a cheque to Amherst Little League Baseball! Donations like this enables Amherst Little League to proudly provide boys and girls aged 5-12 years with the sport of baseball at no cost! 

Amherst Preschool

      Firefighter Tim Cook & Firefighter Jordan Cole presents a cheque to the Amherst Preschool. This donation will help the teachers & kids with ongoing activities and like the kids would say “more snacks”.

ARHS & EB Chandler Band & Choir Parents Association

     Firefighter Tim Cook presents a cheque to Stephanie Mizuik of the ARHS & EB Chandler Band & Choir Parents Association. This donation will help support students with ongoing events and music trips! 

Cumberland Kraken Hockey

    Firefighter Bryce Melvin presents a cheque to Cumberland Kraken Hockey. 2023 is the first year for this U-11 hockey team and we are happy to support them with their startup! 

Royal Canadian Legion

   AFFA President, Alex Harrison and Director, Jordan Cole, were happy to present a cheque to Justin McKay, Sgt.-At-Arms of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10, Amherst. These funds will go towards the construction of the new memorial for downtown Amherst in memory of the 158 Canadians killed in the Afghanistan War on Terror.

After The School Bell Food Program

  The Amherst Firefighters Association and the FireFit Committee were proud to present a donation to After The School Bell Food Program.

We would like to thank the volunteers of this organization for all of their dedication and hard work. This donation will help them to continue supplying food bags to 7 different schools and 98 children each week in Cumberland County.

Bright Beginnings Child Day Care Centre

  AFFA Director & PR Committee Chair, Jordan Cole is pleased to present a cheque to Chris Goodwin (Chair of Board of Directors) & Patsy Bennett (Executive Director) of Bright Beginnings Child Day Care Centre, Amherst.
